Rufus 4.5 Beta: Update brings new functions for boot drive creation

In its new beta version, the popular program for creating bootable USB sticks has, among other things, a larger buffer when copying ISO files. Several issues and security vulnerabilities have also been fixed.

New beta of Rufus available

If you want to create a bootable USB stick for Windows, you can either do this using Microsoft’s own Media Creation Tool or use an alternative such as Rufus. The tool not only offers high speed when creating bootable disks, but is also easy to use.

The new Rufus 4.5 has now been released in a beta version. The latest version of the tool brings a lot of useful innovations such as runtime UEFI validation and an increased buffer size for copying ISO files and security patches.

This is the complete list of all new features and improvements in Rufus 4.5:

  • Adding a new advanced option that adds runtime UEFI media validation for eligible images (Windows, most Linux flavors)
  • Moving Rufus advanced MBR option to a cheat mode (Alt-A)
  • Fixes truncation of VHDX images and a harmless error message when writing VHD/VHDX (#2468)
  • Fixes support for Linux persistence in some configurations (Mint, Ubuntu 24.04)
  • Addressed several potential security vulnerabilities
  • Update of the internal GRUB variant to version 2.12
  • Updated UEFI:NTFS to the latest version (now always uses the ntfs-3g driver instead of the faulty AMI-NTFS driver)
  • Increasing the buffer size when copying ISO files to minimize the AMI NTFS UEFI driver bug
  • Improved partition creation handling
  • The WUE dialog is no longer displayed if a conflicting unattend.xml already exists (#2451)

Download is ready

Rufus 4.5 can now be downloaded from the software project’s GitHub page. However, users should be aware that this is a beta.
