Samsung begins mass production of 12nm DDR5 DRAM chips

Samsung the South Korean conglomerate is considered the leader in the DRAM semiconductor memory chips industry. recently, the firm has declared that it has begun the mass production of 16Gb DDR5 DRAM chips. It will be based on 12nm process technology. In contrast to the old generation chips, the new 12nm DRAM chips are said to be more power efficient.

As per information, the new 12nm DRAM chips are 23% more efficient in terms of power. They have a 20% increased wafer productivity. These chips can provide efficient results for cloud servers and high-performance computing. They provide high power savings and less carbon footprint, especially for data centers.

According to the company, the new 12nm-class DDR5 DRAM production is a result of Samsung’s High-κ material. It enhances cell capacitance that led to significant electric potential differences in the data signals. In this way, it becomes easy to differentiate between them. It has the capacity to offer data transfer speeds of 7.2Gbps. Such a speed equals to processing two 30GB 4K movies in a second.

Back in December 2022, the 12nm DDR5 DRAM chips have already been evaluated for AMD CPUs. To promote innovation in the DRAM industry, the corporation will keep working with additional international IT firms. The Executive VP of DRAM Product & Technology at Samsung Electronics, Jooyoung Lee, states that the new 12nm DDR5 DRAM by Samsung is power efficient. It delivers outstanding performance. Our latest product proves that we are committed to leading the DRAM market space. We have not only improved the performance and capacity but we are also eager to cater to the computing demands that are associated with large-scale processing. Side by side we will also commercialize next-gen solutions that offer great productivity.
