Samsung blocks sideloading of apps on Android

Anyone who wants to use apps on Samsung Android smartphones that do not come from the Google Play Store or Samsung’s own store will have to put in more effort in the future. The sideloading of apps will be blocked by default as of One UI 6.1.1. Samsung

New Auto Blocker app active ex works

As Android specialist Mishaal Rahman reports at Android Authority, Samsung has started changing the settings of the factory-installed Auto Blocker security control with the new Samsung One UI version 6.1.1, which was launched with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6.

This also includes making it more difficult to use apps from third-party sources in order to ensure greater security for inexperienced users. Probably because the majority of customers are not “power users”, the sideloading of apps in One UI 6.1.1 is blocked via Auto Blocker. Because the protective measures are activated at the factory, you cannot simply install software on the new Android smartphones unless you enable sideloading.

Auto Blocker can be easily switched off

For this, the user is again asked to identify themselves and thus give their unambiguous consent. Auto Blocker enforces its sideloading block even if the user tries to install an app from a third-party source and agrees to the usual Android request for user consent. Auto Blocker has been part of Samsung’s smartphone interface since One UI 6.0, but was previously only offered as an option and was not yet active from the factory.

This is now changing, because Auto Blocker will now always have to be switched off if you want to install apps from external sources. Switching it off is basically very simple: the user has to go to the “Security and Privacy” section in the settings and look for the Auto Blocker entry there. They can then identify themselves and initiate the switch-off. Auto Blocker also comes with a variety of other blocking functions that are intended to help protect the user’s data as security measures. Samsung provides more detailed information on a special website about the options offered by the new security tool.
