Samsung Galaxy Note 9 vs Note 8 – Here is the Difference

Samsung has officially launched Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and apparently, it looks similar to Note 8 except the increased price. But on a closer inspection, Samsung has made certain important changes in Note 9.

Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has the biggest display ever seen in a Samsung Phone. Samsung Note 9 has 6.4-inches display compared to 6.3-inch screen infinity display of Note 8. 18.5:9 aspect ratio same as Note 8’s aspect ratio. Note 9 has 83.4% screen-to-body ratio while Note 8 has 83.2% screen-to-body ratio. These changes are so slight that they are not noticeable at all.

There is a marginally small difference in size and weight the phones with Note 9’s 161.9 x 76.4 x 8.8 mm dimensions and 201g weight while Note 8’s 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm dimensions and 195g weight.

In terms of the location of its buttons, the fingerprint sensor has been moved from beside the rear camera to under it.

S Pen

Another noticeable change in Note 9 is the bright yellow S Pen. For the first time, Samsung has equipped its S Pen with Bluetooth LE. This means faster functionality like remote shutter operation of the camera, clicker in presentations and a playback music control. Furthermore, S Pen charges automatically through the supercapacitor so it hardly takes any battery from the phone.

Other than this the IP68 water and dust resistance feature, USB-C charging, 3.5mm headphone jack is the same as that of Note 8.

Battery

Samsung Note 9 has a huge 4,000mAh battery, 700mAh increase from Note 8’s battery. Also, the micro SD card supports up to 512GB storage compared to 256GB in Note 8.

Camera

The hardware of Note 9 camera is same as that of S9 plus with dual 12MP rear cameras, and a main dual aperture lens. The lens shifts between F2.4 for detailed shots to F1.5 for low light shots. Note 8 had a basic F1.7 sensor.

Pixel size, the 8MP F1.7 front camera is the same as that of Note 8.

Intelligent Scan

An addition in Note 9 is the ‘Intelligent Scan’ facial recognition software. It is nothing like iPhone X’s Face ID but it is an addition to the phone.

Performance

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor, Adreno 630 GPU in the US and Exynos 9810 processor, Mali-G72 MP18 GPU in the European and Asian market.

Note 8 was equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835. In comparison, Note 9’s processor is 20% faster, 30% more power efficient compared to Snapdragon 835. Note 9 top-of-range phone offers 8GB RAM compared to Note 8’s 6GB RAM.

Water Carbon Cooling system

Water Carbon Cooling system has been added to Note 9 to regulate the phone temperature under pressure.

Price

Galaxy Note 9 with 128GB price is $999 / £899

Galaxy Note 9 with 512GB price is $1,250 / £1,099

The price is huge and simply unaffordable for the middle class. The high-end model of Note 9 has become the most expensive mass-market smartphone.
