Samsung Galaxy S20 Is The First Certified Fast USB Charging Phone

Samsung Galaxy S20 becomes the first smartphone which will receive certification for Fast USB charging support, according to usb.org Samsung becomes the first smartphone to be certified for USB Fast Charging. The document released by the company says, “USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, today announced the Samsung Galaxy S20 series has achieved Certified USB Fast Charger status. The Samsung Galaxy S20 series supports the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) feature of the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.0 specification, representing a “USB-IF certification first” and a significant milestone for the smartphone industry.”

According to the certification, it is verified now that Galaxy S20 Series will support Programmable Power Supply (PPS) and USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.0 specification. This also means that the phones will also work with certified third-party fast chargers.

In order to achieve fast charging support, the chargers need to send voltage at a specific rate and communicate with the device, if they do not follow this protocol the fast charging would decrease to a lower level.

According to the specifications, Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus will support fast charging up to 25W and S20 Ultra will support 45W however, the charger also needs to be capable of delivering the required speed. Samsung is launching the Galaxy S20 series on March 6, the S20 Ultra also supports 100x zoom reported earlier. According to the price leaks, the device starts at $999 for the base model and S20 Ultra will cost $1399.
