As can be seen from various reports from buyers of Samsung’s latest smartwatch models in the Korean manufacturer’s community forums, there is apparently a bug that affects all models of the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which are almost identical apart from the design. Users report that they often feel the watch vibrate on their wrist – without any understandable reason.
Normally, the watches only vibrate when a notification arrives, an app is active, a call comes in or an alarm or reminder is set. So far, many possible reasons for the “phantom vibrations” have been discussed, with apps such as Google Maps, WhatsApp and the Samsung Health Platform being identified as causing the unwanted or seemingly causeless vibrations.
They still seem to need to be removed, deactivated or reinstalled, but the problem can’t really be narrowed down to one app yet. Samsung itself has not yet commented on the topic. If it is actually a problem with the watches themselves, the Korean electronics giant should be able to counteract it with a software update that would be released sooner or later.
Until then, at least some owners of Samsung’s new smartwatches will have to be prepared to be disturbed by a “phantom vibration” every now and then.
