With the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5, a new ruggedized smartphone is in the starting blocks, for which we now exclusively have extensive technical data. The 5.3-inch model, which is protected against wind and weather, will appear in March and cost around 300 euros.
Image material, benchmarks and Bluetooth certifications leaked in the last few weeks already pointed to the new Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5, for which we can now confirm detailed specifications. We were able to find out from reliable sources that the South Korean manufacturer equips its comparatively shock-resistant Android smartphone with a 5.3-inch LC display. This has a resolution of 1480 x 720 pixels (310 PPI) and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The ruggedized plastic design is also accompanied by an IP68 and US military certification (810G) for protection against water, dust and bumps or falls.
Under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5, the Exynos 850 is an octa-core processor from 2019, whose Cortex-A55 cores reach a maximum clock rate of 2.0 GHz. The chip will be supported by 4 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 64 GB. The latter can be expanded with the help of a microSD card. In addition, it is possible that Samsung will offer further memory variants at the start of March. Apart from that, there is space for two nano-SIM cards for dual SIM operation (4G network) in the device.
The Galaxy Xcover 5 also features a 16-megapixel main camera with f / 1.8 aperture, contrast detection and LED flash, as well as a 5-megapixel front camera (f / 2.2). The available radio connections are specified in addition to 4G-LTE with WLAN-ac, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. The 3000 mAh exchangeable battery is charged via USB-C with a maximum of 15 watts. The operating system used ex-works is Google Android 11. Finally, Samsung specifies a weight of 172 grams for the Galaxy Xcover 5 with dimensions of 147.1 x 71.6 x 9.2 millimetres (HxWxD).

In terms of price, the South Koreans’ new outdoor smartphone is expected to be between 289 and 299 euros in Germany. So far we only have information about a single color variant in “Graphite Black” (black).
