Samsung intends to manufacture OLED screens with zero bezels

The South Korean tech giant is known as the biggest manufacturer of OLED panels for mobile devices in the world. In addition to this, the company’s division, Samsung Display, is known for manufacturing OLED panels for high-end smartphones like flagships. In the OLED segment, the company has drastically improved its strategy which expands from designing traditional OELD panels to almost bezel-less panels. Now, the company intends to move a step ahead and work on OLED panels with zero bezels.

As per the information shared by Revegnus, the company detailed its future perspective on smartphones. The company showcased the new ideas in a presentation. One slide of the presentation showed a bezel-less OLED screen with a notch on the top and an OLED panel with punch holes and pill-shaped cuts for selfie cameras. Alongside this, the company included an image of an ‘All Around Full Screen’ OLED panel. According to the company, such a panel will cover the whole front of a smartphone. In this way, there will be no bezels on the front. Such panels would be based on 3D lamination technologies and edge brightness control.

Just a few weeks ago, a report indicated that the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple had demanded zero-bezel display panels from its display panel suppliers, i.e., LG Display and Samsung Display. The company will reportedly use such panels in its future smartphones. The manufacturing process will definitely take some time. So, technically, we are years away from such smartphones. However, Samsung could include such OLED panels in its future Galaxy flagships once it succeeds with this technology.

In addition to this, the company has worked on UPC (Under-Panel Camera) for smartphones. Apparently, the company has used this tech in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. It seems more likely now that future smartphones may have zero-bezel screens with no discernible cutout for front-facing cameras.
