Samsung is acquiring WRGB OLED TV panels from LG Display this month

Just the previous month, we learned about the potential deal between LG Display and Samsung. As per the information, the South Korean tech firm will purchase WRGB OLED TV panels from Lg Display in the near future. The recent pieces of information indicate that LG Display will begin a small supply of WRGB OLED panels to Samsung by this month.

Samsung will introduce the TVs based on WRGB tech later this year. For this reason, the company will acquire a few numbers of OLED panels. In this way, Samsung will have an expanded catalog of WRGB OLED and QD-OLED TV series. Some pieces of information suggest that the deal has not been signed yet. The signing of the contract is bound to marketing costs and development given the slow demand for TVs after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Asper reports, LG Display will manufacture two different panels for Samsung i.e., 77-inch and 83-inch WRGB OLED panels. On the whole, Samsung will receive between 200,000 and 300,000 units of supply this year. Whereas LG Display will supply around 1 million and 1,5 million OLED TV panels to Samsung Visual Display next year.

Early last year, Samsung (S95B) released its first OLED TV in more than a decade. The company followed up earlier this year with two new models (the S90C and S95C), all of which utilize Samsung Display’s QD-OLED panels. Samsung Display is unable to produce as many QD-OLED panels as Samsung Visual Display requires and has yet to produce an 83-inch or larger QD-OLED panel. Samsung Visual Display was consequently compelled to go to LG Display in order to obtain more OLED panels in greater shapes and numbers.

Given the OLED TV range of the company, the 55-inch and 65-inch will e based on Samsung’s QD-OLED panels. Whereas the 77-inch OLED TVs will be a mixture of LG Display’s tech and Samsung’s technology. Whether or not the company distinguishes the two panels with different TV models or not is dependent on time. However, the current information indicates that the company will sell the two variants with similar model numbers. However, the 83-inch OLED TV is expected to be based on LG’s WRGB OLED panels.
