Samsung Revealed World’s Largest SSD with 30TB of Storage

Samsung has revealed the largest solid state drive (SSD) in the world. As per the claim by the company this SSD has 30.72 terabytes of storage.

Never before this much storage has been packed into a 2.5-inch form factor. This SSD is called PM1643. Coming to its built & hardware details, the SSD is developed from 32 sticks of 1TB NAND flash packages. Each stick has 16 layers of 512Gb V-NAND chips. So in layman’s terms space is enough to have almost 5,700 HD movies or approximately 500 days of non-stop video.

Let us surprise you even more. This SSD has twice more capacity than the previous largest SSD which was 16 terabyte drive. That 16TB drive was also launched by Samsung in March 2016. That drive was in a more spacious form factor of 3.5 inches.

The sequential read and write speeds offered by the new Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drive can reach to 2,100MB/s and 1,700 MB/s. This is three times faster than a normal SATA SSD. What’s more is that with the SSD Samsung is offering a warranty of five years.

The price and sale date of the new SSD is not revealed yet. This is known that Samsung will release different ranges of SAS SSDs ranging from 16.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB, to 800GBS.

Samsung executive VP of memory sales Jaesoo Han said that Samsung will “continue to move aggressively in meeting the shifting demand toward SSDs over 10TB.

To all the users & readers who have got excited reading this news. Hold your breath. We won’t see 30TB SSDs any time soon in laptops or desktops. But this milestone has been achieved & we will just see progress & further development in this department from here onwards. Let’s hope that Samsung will soon officially launch this SSD.
