Samsung Set to Launch 83-Inch QD-OLED TVs in 2025, but Panel Variability Persists

Samsung appears to be preparing a significant update to its QD-OLED TV lineup, with plans to introduce an 83-inch model in 2025. Reports indicate these new models may be branded as the S95F and S90F, with an anticipated debut at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

Expanding the QD-OLED Lineup

According to early leaks from certification databases, reported by HIFI.de, Samsung is ready to add an 83-inch option to its QD-OLED series, complementing the existing 55-, 65-, and 77-inch versions. Skipping the letter “E” in model names, Samsung is expected to unveil these larger displays at the beginning of the year, marking a notable size expansion in the QD-OLED lineup.

Persistent Panel Variability

However, potential buyers may still face the ongoing “panel lottery” dilemma. Samsung is likely to continue mixing QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display and WOLED panels from LG Display within the same series. This could mean that a single model series may contain units with different panel types. To help differentiate, Samsung is expected to label QD-OLED models with a “T” in the model name and WOLED versions with an “E” — for example, “QE83S95FAT” for a QD-OLED and “QE83S95FAE” for a WOLED.

Introducing New Technologies

2025 could also see Samsung debuting “FlatBright” technology, designed to further reduce screen reflections, which may elevate QD-OLED TVs to the top tier in visual performance. Additionally, Samsung has developed “Quantum Dot Ink Regeneration Technology,” which aims to recycle around 80% of the quantum dot material lost during production. This innovation could save Samsung approximately €7.8 million in production costs, potentially leading to a more sustainable manufacturing process.

Availability and Open Questions

Despite these advancements, there are still uncertainties around availability and features. Initial reports suggest the 83-inch QD-OLED model may launch exclusively in the UK, with no immediate plans for other regions. Another open question is whether Samsung will finally support Dolby Vision, a highly requested feature among consumers. However, industry experts speculate that Dolby Vision support remains unlikely for Samsung’s 2025 lineup.

As CES 2025 approaches, more details about Samsung’s plans for its expanded QD-OLED lineup are expected, providing clarity on these new offerings and their global rollout.
