Samsung To Ditch Fan Edition series from this year

The Galaxy S22 FE could be the latest victim of Samsung’s cancellations as multiple reports indicate that the smartphone was simply discontinued by the manufacturer. This would be the end of this series.

After only two years, Samsung can bury its recent Fan Edition series, which launched in 2020 with the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, then refreshed early this year with the Galaxy S21 FE. According to a report from SamMobile citing multiple sources, Samsung has indeed shelved plans for a watered-down version of the Galaxy S22, which would confirm previous leaks that also herald the end of the series.

This is not the first series that Samsung has given up in recent years, as none other than the Galaxy Note 21 was the latest victim. With the arrival of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the integrated stylus, the Galaxy Note series no longer seemed original enough to justify its existence Samsung therefore naturally focused on foldable smartphones.

Samsung could bury the Galaxy S Fan Edition series

The reason for the discontinuation is unclear, but perhaps the FE versions of the phones aren’t selling as well as Samsung would have liked. The Galaxy S21 FE was originally supposed to hit the market at the end of last year, but Samsung eventually delayed the launch several times due to chip shortages, which hampered the production of the smartphone. At the beginning of 2022, the smartphone had finally arrived, but it lost the main asset of the series: good value for money.

On departure at a price of 759 euros in the basic version smartphone was more expensive than previous generations, but above all much more expensive than the classic Galaxy S21 Galaxy Ss usually see their price plummet shortly after release. If Samsung cannot be aggressive enough on the price of the Fan Edition, it is normal for the Korean manufacturer to question the relevance of this series in the market. Samsung fans looking for a mid-range smartphone now only have no choice but to look at the Galaxy A series, or a high-end model from the previous year.
