Samsung To Ditch S Voice Assistant Soon

Samsung is now planning to get rid of S Voice Assistant which was initially an attempt to compete with Apple’s famous Siri voice assistant. The company is reportedly pulling off the plug from the voice assistant by June 1 of this year.

Samsung actually kept the S Voice assistant on the corner with the launch of its Bixby voice assistant, it is not wise to take almost two similar products at the same time rather focusing on one single solid product, Samsung has realized that and finally decided to say official Goodbye to the S Voice.

The report can be found on a Samsung support page. Samsung is actually replacing the S Voice with Bixby in all new upcoming Samsung devices so the users won’t be affected by the decision at large. However, Samsung wearable products such as Gear S3, Gear Sport do run on S Voice assistant.

But Samsung says these wearables and smartwatches will actually receive a software update which will ultimately replace S Voice with new updated Samsung Bixby voice assistant, the software update will be rolled out once the support for S Voice ends.

S Voice as mentioned earlier wasn’t the voice assistant which was developed to the level of most conventional voice assistants we see on the market like Apple’s Siri and Google’s voice assistant, it could not answer the questions as you can ask from other voice assistants. However, the S Voice was able to perform some predefined tasks such as setting reminders, calling people, initiating internet searches, etc.

The Samsung support page states that phones that have the S Voice icon on the applications screen will be affected, although it will also affect some tablets, according to SamMobile.

  • Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9
  • Galaxy Note FE
  • Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 5
  • Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy 7, Galaxy S7 edge
  • Galaxy W
  • Galaxy Tab 4
  • Galaxy Tab 4 8.0/10.1
  • Galaxy Tab S8.4 and S10.5

According to 9to5Google, except for the smartwatches, none of the other devices will receive updates to support Bixby. If you own one of these devices and are looking for a voice assistant to replace S Voice, you can always make use of Google Assistant.
