Samsung To Extend HDR 10+ To Gaming Sector Soon

The electronics manufacturer Samsung could soon extend its HDR standard HDR10 + to the gaming sector. The company plans to build support for the technology into games. For this, the South Korean group could cooperate with developer studios.

When asked by Caschy’s blog, Samsung noted that the company is aiming for new games with support for its dynamic HDR standard HDR10 +. Samsung is working with various partners for this purpose. However, it is still unclear which companies are involved. In addition, it is not yet known whether the South Koreans would like to concentrate mainly on game consoles or mobile devices when expanding HDR10 +. Cooperation with Sony or PlayStation would be conceivable.

Samsung may announce in the next few months which publishers and console manufacturers should support the HDR10 + standard in the future. Microsoft had cooperated with Dolby to Vision gaming on the Xbox Series X/S to bring. That could be an incentive for Sony to bring a similar standard to the PlayStation with HDR10 +.

No fees for using HDR10 +

HDR10 + is an open and dynamic metadata platform for High Dynamic Range (HDR) and was developed by 20th Century Fox, Panasonic and Samsung. Unlike Dolby Vision, TV manufacturers don’t have to pay license fees to use HDR10 +.

Basically, Samsung seems to see a big factor for the TV market in gaming. Today’s televisions are no longer devices for passive media consumption, but rather a kind of gateway to a broad world of entertainment. For this reason, the manufacturer is likely to focus on improvements and functions in the future, which to a large extent are also aimed at the gaming industry.
