Samsung To Focus More On Affordable 5G Smartphones

Samsung’s smartphone lineup reportedly took a hit due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. The company aims to reverse the downward trend in sales by concentrating on a cheaper 5G range, and claims that 5G on affordable smartphones will matter most in the post-coronavirus economy. 

Given that the company already has cheaper 5 G phones such as Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy A71 5G, there is growing speculation that Samsung’s priority on affordable 5G phones will be on the A-series.

Samsung has been actively promoting the production of affordable 5G smartphones ever since the introduction of the high-end Galaxy S10 5G variant in early 2019. The Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, and the Galaxy A90 5G are two more smartphones introduced in the premium market.

Due to the coronavirus situation, smartphone shipments worldwide are predicted to decrease by more than 10 per cent this year. According to Strategy Analytics reports, in February global monthly smartphone shipments decreased by 38 percent.

While all brands are affected by this, some seem to get hit even more than the others. Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series handsets were significantly lower than anticipated by the company.

In addition to the coronavirus pandemic, revenues were also affected by the high cost of Galaxy S20 series phones and decreased subsidies from carriers. 

Samsung’s forthcoming 5G plans would be cheaper to draw buyers with not-so-deep pockets and the main benefit for users to update their handsets will be 5G.
