If you believe Samsung is only limited to mobile devices, computers, home appliances, display panels, and semiconductor chips, then you might want to change your perception of the company. The company is also working on electric vehicle batteries.
According to Sam Mobile, the company is in talks with Tesla to power its electric vehicles. This chapter would be managed by Samsung SDI, which is the company’s battery-making arm.
The source said that Samsung SDI has already completed its first sample cells of Tesla’s 4680 battery. Not only that, but the company is also working to offer other related products to Tesla, including specialized chips, batteries, OLED screens, camera sensors, and LED lights. That’s going to be huge for Samsung.
Tesla, however, hasn’t signed a contract with Samsung. The company has other offers as well. We heard that Samsung is competing with LG Energy Solutions.
According to Tesla, 4680 battery cells are much more affordable and efficient. These batteries could give a longer life to the vehicle.
