Seven million Facebook posts removed for sharing false information on COVID-19

According to the details shared by the social media giant Facebook, the company has removed as many as 7 million Facebook posts in the second quarter for sharing false information regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The details said that the company has also removed the posts including content that promoted the fake preventive measures and exaggerated cures for the deadly virus.

The social media company has released the data as part of its sixth Community Standards Enforcement Report, which the company introduced in back 2018 along with more stringent decorum rules in response to a backlash over its lax approach to policing content on its platforms.

The company further announced that it would invite the external social media experts to independently audit the metrics used in the Community Standards Enforcement Report, beginning in 2021.

It is pertinent to mention here that one the most popular social media platforms Facebook removed as many as 22.5 million posts containing the hate speech on social media in the second quarter, up from 9.6 million posts in the first quarter.

On the other hand, the company has also removed 8.7 million Facebook posts that were connected to the extremist organizations, compared with 6.3 million in the prior period.
