Smartphone Owners Do Not Care About Ai Much
What does the customer want? This is a question that every smartphone manufacturer has to ask themselves. As a new survey now shows, companies like Samsung and Apple currently seem to be ‘developing’ their devices past potential buyers.
Everyone relies on AI
Almost all smartphone manufacturers are currently focusing particularly on developing new functions with artificial intelligence. Google has Gemini, Apple has Apple Intelligence and Samsung has its Galaxy AI, all of which are being implemented and expanded at a rapid pace.
In the next generation at the latest, you will probably no longer find a high-end device that does not have AI functions deeply integrated into the operating system. But do customers actually want that?
Customers want different things
According to a recent study by CNET For the majority of smartphone owners, completely different things are important to their cell phones. AI is not at the top of the list of features that are particularly important to customers.
Just 18 percent of all respondents said that AI functions would motivate them to buy a new device. This puts Gemini, and Siri. in a distant seventh place. The frontrunner here is by far the desire for a larger battery. A full 61 percent would buy a new device if the battery lasted longer. At 46 percent, larger storage is in second place, followed by new camera functions in third place (38 percent).
Privacy and cost concerns
In addition, 45 percent of all survey participants say that they are not prepared to pay extra for AI functions in the future. Only six percent would spend additional money. 34 percent of those surveyed are also worried about their privacy, which they see as being at risk when using corresponding functions. A quarter simply do not find artificial intelligence helpful and do not want more of it to find its way onto their smartphones.
Folding devices, no thanks
In addition to AI, foldables, i.e. smartphones with a foldable screen, also do not seem to have a large following among the study participants. Just over half (52 percent) have no interest in buying a device like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.
At least 15 percent can imagine buying them if the devices become cheaper in the future. The survey, conducted by YouGov, surveyed 2,484 U.S. adults ages 18 and older from a variety of age groups. 2,387 of them owned a smartphone.
