Solid e-bike for the city in the test

At the Tenways CGO009 It is an e-bike with a 250-watt motor. The manufacturer describes the electric bike as a city bike, which is probably due to the lack of suspension on the front wheel.

Since Tenways has installed a torque sensor, the power of the motor can be felt directly. The motor, specially developed by Tenways, works pleasantly quietly, which is particularly pleasant in quieter environments such as the forest.

The CGO009 is quite tall. The manufacturer recommends it for riders over 165 cm tall. However, the maximum rider height of 2 meters is a rather conservative estimate, as even taller people can ride the e-bike comfortably. The CGO009 is available in the colors Olive Green, Midnight Black and Ice Blue.

App instead of display

At first glance, the CGO009 lacks a display. Similar to the Gocycle G4i, the Tenways has a graphic display, but not a typical e-bike display. This minimalist display makes the handlebars look tidy, but puts the app in the foreground. The controller and a bell are on the left side of the handlebars.

The buttons on the controller are comfortable to press, but are not illuminated. If you change the support level, this is indicated by green LEDs. Our colleague Timm Mohn was pleased to note that the Tenways CGO009 successfully masters small inclines despite its comparatively low 45 Nm torque. This is probably due to good interaction with Tenways’ own C9 motor.

The smart e-bike also comes with an app, which is available in the Play and App Store (Android / iOS) is available free of charge. Among other things, the app enables GPS tracking of the bike and notifications when the e-bike is moved or leaves the self-defined “safe zone”. You also receive a notification in the event of attempted theft, e.g. if the battery is removed. The app also allows you to unlock the bike using your smartphone.

This allows you to record routes and track them in the app. The Smart Connect function is free for three years and can then be reactivated for 29 euros per year. The app also estimates the remaining range of the electric bike. The CGO009 is equipped with a 374 Wh battery. The manufacturer states a realistic range of up to 85 kilometers. The actual range depends on your own body weight, the outside temperature and the road conditions. Heavier riders should plan shorter tours, however.

The manufacturer places a great deal of emphasis on the city bike character of the CGO009. As already mentioned, this is due to the lack of suspension at the front. Before you buy the e-bike, you should therefore think carefully about what kind of routes you mainly ride. If you often ride on dirt roads, you should consider whether the CGO009 is the right choice.

Alternatively, there is the AGO X for the same price. The self-proclaimed SUV among e-bikes has a derailleur gear, while the CGO009 is equipped with a Carbon Drive CDN belt drive. For commuters on straight routes, the low-maintenance belt is usually the more convenient option. Tenways offers the CGO009 currently for 2,399 euros. More from Timm: Nerdbench on YouTube
