Sony brings retro theme back for the surface

Birthday gimmick becomes permanent feature

On the occasion of the 30th birthday of its PlayStation consoles, Sony had temporarily made a series of themes available for the PS5, with which the design of the user interface in the style of PlayStation One, the PS2, the PlayStation 3 or the PS4 could be redesigned.

At first the whole thing was planned as a kind of gimmick that would be limited in time. Even then, the company announced that the old designs should be reissued again due to the “fantastic reaction” of the fan base. Now the classic design themes for the PlayStation 5 are available again in the course of a new update.

Retro theme unfortunately without classic start sounds

If you have installed the new update on your PS5, the old designs can be selected and applied via the console settings. So if you want to give yourself full retro drumming or just want to see an earlier beloved design again, you will get the option again with the latest update.

With the new edition of the retro themes for the PS5, there is a big difference to the variants available last year for the Playstation anniversary. The option of sounding the start sound of the modern console in the style of the previous generations was unfortunately deleted by Sony for reasons not known. It is unclear whether Sony may still want to retrofit this, as the old start sounds were one of the most popular features in the retro theme.
