Soon, WhatsApp will make it possible to locate password-protected chats with a secret code
We are all aware of the fact that users can lock a chat on WhatsApp with the help of a passcode or biometrics. The locked chats can be found inside the Locked Chats folder. This adds an extra layer of privacy to locked chats. In order to access these folders, go to the Chats section, tap on Locked Chats, and verify your identity by feeding the passcode or biometrics.
According to some recent pieces of information, users can now locate the locked chats with the help of a secret code. They can type the secret code within the search bar of the app and find locked chats. The new feature can be found in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.23.21.9). It was first spotted by WABetaInfo. The source even shared a screenshot that shows the details of the secret code.
Reportedly, the secret code can be any emoji or a word. According to what we could gather, after creating a secret code, you may enter it in the app’s search field, and it will display all the closed chats. Presently, there are no details on whether the secret code grants access to locked chats or if it unlocks the chat and grants access to the conversations. Perhaps it will unlock the chats since the feature’s usability will be diminished if this is not the case. What will be the benefit of this feature if it merely grants access to locked chats and still requires a passcode or biometrics to access the conversations?
Currently, there is no word on when this feature will be rolled out. Similarly, there are no details about what will happen once a secret code is created for Locked Chats. You may locate your locked chats and open them with the passcode and biometrics if the Locked Chats folder is still available. If it is disabled, you can only access locked chats by putting the secret code in the search field. But we believe that the latter would be true. The locked chats might still be accessed without a secret code.
