Spotify is now offering an audiobook-only subscription

Spotify

Another subscription option has been added by Spotify. This time, it’s presenting a proposal that isn’t really related to music. For $10 a month, users can access 15 hours of audiobook listening through the Audiobooks Access Tier (currently available exclusively in the US). The more than 200,000 titles in Spotify’s collection will be available to you. Of course, Spotfy’s free plan still allows you to listen to music with advertisements.

It might seem strange at first that Spotify would charge this much for an audiobook-only tier. Along with other benefits, Spotify Premium, which costs $11 a month, offers the same 15 hours of audiobook listening time. That being said, listening to an audiobook often takes seven to eleven hours.

Spotify is undercutting Audible as a result to some extent. For $15, users of that platform can get one audiobook credit each month. Therefore, you could be able to listen to about two books a month for $5 cheaper with Spotify. However, it’s important to remember that any unused listening time does not roll over to the following month.

Spotify reported that since November, when it began providing Premium users with 15 hours of free audiobook listening, the number of people on the free tier who search for and engage with audiobook content on a daily basis has increased by 45 percent (the company also sells audiobooks on its web player). The increase of interest is a good enough justification for Spotify to attempt an audio-book only subscription.
