Super Bowl LIX: Upgraded 5G Connectivity Ensures Fans Stay Connected in New Orleans

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here, and with it comes one of America’s biggest sporting events. This year, New Orleans will host the iconic game, drawing tens of thousands of fans ready to cheer, party, and livestream every moment. In the past, this massive influx might have meant unreliable cell reception as crowds packed the Superdome and surrounding areas. But not this year — carriers like AT&T have been hard at work upgrading connectivity to ensure everyone can stay connected without interruption.

Tackling Connectivity Issues Head-On

AT&T has been prepping for this moment for years, starting with upgrades during the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2022. Now, those efforts come to fruition just in time for Super Bowl LIX and Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance on Sunday, February 9. Fans can expect seamless connectivity even in a packed Superdome, where AT&T has installed an updated distributed antenna system (DAS). This system tackles congestion by dividing the stadium into multiple zones, supported by dedicated mmWave antennas to provide reliable bandwidth throughout the game and concert.

But the upgrades don’t stop at the Superdome. AT&T has extended its boosted network to the surrounding areas, ensuring fans leaving the venue can continue sharing their experiences at nearby bars, restaurants, and music venues.

A $2.1 Billion Investment in Louisiana Tech

The connectivity upgrades are part of AT&T’s $2.1 billion investment in Louisiana’s technology infrastructure. Specifically, $575 million has been allocated to enhance key locations in Greater New Orleans, including hotels, convention centers, and other high-traffic areas hosting fans, teams, and coaches.

AT&T’s commitment goes beyond fan experiences. Emergency services are also a priority. The upgrades include preemptive priority for first responders, ensuring clear, reliable communication channels during emergencies. With access to Band 14 spectrum, first responders can focus on keeping everyone safe — even during the occasional mayhem that accompanies big game celebrations.

Other Carriers Join the Game

AT&T isn’t the only one stepping up its 5G game. T-Mobile has announced its own upgrades ahead of the Super Bowl, ensuring that fans from all carriers have better connectivity throughout the event. With major players vying to provide the best service, this year’s Super Bowl promises to be a win for fans and their smartphones alike.

So, whether you’re livestreaming Kendrick Lamar’s performance or sharing updates from the 146th row, you can count on staying connected in New Orleans. Ready for the Big Game? Let the uploads and touchdowns begin!
