Microsoft is distributing new firmware for the fifth and sixth generation Surface Pro devices. The updates improve the general stability and compatibility – further details have not yet been given.
The new updates are now available for owners of Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 6. The new firmware brings bug fixes and general stability improvements and is therefore recommended to all users. There is no more information about this update yet. The following updates are available for all Pro 5 and Pro 6 devices with Windows 10 May 2019 Update aka Windows 10 Version 1903 higher. According to Microsoft, there are currently no known problems.
Surface updates are only released gradually – this means that not every Surface is offered the update at the same time, but it is gradually delivered to all devices. To force the download, look for Update & Security via Settings (Start / Settings) and click on “Check for updates”. It is important to note that firmware updates cannot be uninstalled or rolled back to an earlier version.
The updates are also cumulative. When the latest update is installed, any previous updates that are not yet installed will also be downloaded and installed. After the update, the device has to be restarted to complete the installation process.
The updates are offered via the automatic Windows update function. Microsoft advises that the Surface updates will be released in stages. If the firmware updates are not yet displayed, you should try again after a while or “force” it as described above.
