T-Mobile requests permission from Congress to continue developing 5G

The 5G network by T-Mobile has been in use by several of the best phones. For years, T-Mobile has invested time and resources in building out its 5G network services. During this time period, things were quite smooth for T-Mobile, particularly on the regulatory part. FCC held the spectrum auctions for years and the company was successful in gaining the rights to transfer signals over specific brands. Since 1994, hundreds of such auctions were organized by FCC. These events shaped and modified the overall landscape of wireless connections in the US.

Just recently, FCC lost this authority, as its license expired. It is waiting for renewal approval by Congress. Given this fact, T-Mobile has urged Congress to renew it. A public statement was issued by T-Mobile. Lately, Auction 108 was won by T-Mobile. It was the last auction conducted by FCC before its expiry. T-Mobile won the right to extend its network across several counties across the country. The licenses were mainly important for coverage in rural areas.

However, the authority of the FCC was lapsed by Congress before it could issue a license to T-Mobile in order to operate on the newly auctioned frequency. For this reason, T-Mobile is concerned about the regulatory limbo on FCC. Although, T-Mobile could be granted a Special Temporary Authority, or STA by FCC that will permit the company to use the spectrum while this matter resolves. Well, the ideal situation would be that FCC regains its authority that is tied to Congress approval.
