Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) allow the internet users to connect to the web undetected, meaning that they can see access banned websites and send emails without fear of government interception.
It is pertinent to mention here that many businesses, including banks, use the encrypted internet connections to communicate with their other branches and customers to protect their sensitive data such as account numbers, passwords, and other personal details.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the exercise is being undertaken “to promote legal ICT services/business in Pakistan and safety of telecom users”.
The telecom authority further said that the action would be taken against the customers using the Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) without taking permission from the concerned authorities.
