Tesla Fires Supercharger Team

Tesla is currently struggling with poor numbers and carried out a new wave of layoffs earlier this week. Astonishingly, the Supercharger team, which is the foundation of Tesla’s success, was laid off. But this also has another financial peculiarity.

Strange supercharger decision

The supercharger infrastructure is one reason why Tesla is so successful because one of the electric car manufacturer’s big advantages is that it is very easy to find a way to charge your vehicle quickly. But now we have to talk about the past in several ways. Because Elon Musk essentially threw out the entire Supercharger team at the beginning of the week experts are wondering what drove the Tesla boss to make this decision. In doing so, Tesla is pulling the rug out from under itself, because now no one knows what will happen next with the superchargers.

The amazing thing about it: According to a report by Politico, Tesla is the biggest beneficiary of a law that promotes US charging infrastructure. This has an interesting political dimension: Elon Musk never misses an opportunity to gossip about US President Joe Biden – but he still takes his money without batting an eyelid.

Tesla even received the most money as a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, around 13 percent of all money went to Tesla, that’s more than 17 million dollars, as Politico writes. In principle, this funding cannot be criticized: According to experts, the Supercharger network is considered the best of its kind in the USA and has recently opened up to the competition.

So Tesla was happy to take the government money, while Musk goes on wild tirades and spreads conspiracy stories about the government and the president. Apart from that, observers are now wondering why Tesla is giving up the supercharger business now – if it doesn’t simply hire new (cheaper) employees soon.
