Tesla production halts for a week

Tesla pauses the production of cybertruck and Model Y for a week. Employees were instructed to stay at home or to come for cleaning work. The production stop takes place in the middle of falling sales figures and growing inventory.

Tesla stops cybertruck and model-y production

Tesla exposes the production of his vehicles Cybertruck and Model Y in the plant in Austin, Texas, for the week of the Memorial Day (May 26, 2025). According to reports, employees of the production lines were instructed to either take a paid vacation during this time or to get into the factory for cleaning and training – but no vehicles. Several employees of the affected production lines have this information compared to the media.

The unusually long production break fits in a pattern of increasingly irregular working hours that have been observed in the Austin factory since February. How Business Insider Referred to three employees, they were sent home several times. Management has also started to restrict overtime and threaten disciplinary measures when it is violated. The production break comes at a time when Tesla has to deal with weak financial figures. In the first quarter of 2025, the electric car manufacturer achieved a net profit of only $ 409 million (around $ 364 million). This corresponds to a profit decline of 71 percent compared to the previous year. The turnover was $ 19.3 billion (around 17.2 billion euros). Incidentally, without the sale of emission certificates worth $ 595 million (around 530 million euros), Tesla would have even had a loss. It is not the first time that Tesla is reducing the production of cybertruck. Already in April, the car manufacturer reduced the production goals for the futuristic pickup and put some workers on other production lines. Cybertruck production was also suspended for three days in December. Tesla also faces a growing problem with unsuccessful cybertrucks.

Thousands of vehicles worth around $ 200 million build up in the camps. A previously announced extension of the range for $ 16,000, which would take half of the loading area, was still removed from the offer quietly and quietly – although Tesla had not already collected resignable reservation fees of $ 2000 per piece. Industry observers expect Tesla to soon introduce pricing for the cybertruck. Tesla partly recorded dramatic break -in of sales worldwide. There are several reasons for this, including the increasing competition, but mainly responsible for the crisis are the political (right) positions of CEO Elon Musk.

Challenges for Tesla

Tesla is faced with various challenges: the company’s vehicle range ages, although the limousines and SUVs have now received all facelifts. The latest product, the cybertruck, is by no means the success that CEO Elon Musk had expected. The angular electric pickup was first presented in 2019 and was not launched until the end of 2023 after several delays. According to analysts estimates, Tesla did not sell 50,000 units of the vehicle – more than half a million people had registered with non -binding pre -orders.
