Huawei grabbed the attention of the masses when it debuted the new Kirin 9000s chip. In this short piece, we will cover the details of the performance of the Kirin 9000s chipset. According to some fresh details, on benchmarks, the Huawei Kirin 9000 from 2020—the “old” model—performed better than the current model.
According to the information shared by Nanoreview.net, the CPU performance of the Kirin 9000s was better than the Kirin 9000. However, the Kirin 9000 managed to outperform the new Kirin 9000s in all other categories. In a single-core test, the Kirin 9000s scored 1,315 points, whereas it scored 4,078 points in the multi-core test. In contrast, the Kirin 9000 scored 1,259 points in a single-core test and recorded 3,486 points in a multi-core test.
With a score of 897,496 to 894,530 on AnTuTu 10, the Kirin 9000s only managed to defeat the Kirin 9000 overall. However, the Kirin 9000 completely outperformed the Kirin 9000s when it came to the GPU department. It received 315,801 points as opposed to the Kirin 9000’s 200,982 points. In 3DMark Wild Life, the Kirin 9000 outperformed Huawei’s latest processor by 20%. That should come as no surprise given that SMIC used its second-generation 7nm node to build the Kirin 9000s, whereas TSMC used a 5nm node to create the Kirin 9000.
Because of US sanctions, SMIC and Huawei have relatively restricted opportunities to produce SoCs. It was the only thing that the two companies could come up with, given their limited resources. SMIC fabricated the chips on the imported deep ultraviolet lithography (DUV) machines. For chips under 7nm, more advanced equipment, for instance, Cannon’s nanoimprint lithography (NIL) technology, is required.
About a year ago, Huawei submitted a patent application for EUV components. So, we can expect things to improve for Huawei in the future. The new chipset might not have great benchmark scores, but it performs quite well.
