The Galaxy Watch 7 may be the first product from Samsung to use a 3nm Exynos chip

The South Korean conglomerate Samsung is all set to lead the semiconductor chip industry. The company intends to manufacture 3nm chips in 2024. Besides this, the company plans to get hands-on with 2nm and 1.4nm manufacturing in 2025 and 2027, respectively. However, none of the company’s Exynos silicon will be built on these processes. The company will use the Exynos 2400, built on a 4nm chip, in the Galaxy S24 series in some markets.

The company will debut its first 3nm chip in the market later than the Exynos 2400. According to a new report from Korean media, in H2 2024, Samsung will power the next-generation Galaxy Watch with its first 3nm-based Exynos solution. It’s uncertain if this solution will be dubbed “Exynos W940.”

The company has been using Exynos chips built on a 5nm process since the Galaxy Watch 4. The company updated the 5nm Exynos W920 to the 5nm Exynos W930 that was used in the Galaxy Watch 6 series that debuted early this year. It features a high 1.4GHz frequency. But it is not something that could be regarded as a generational difference. We might observe more significant upgrades in 2024 with the Galaxy Watch 7 series, which is expected to feature the company’s first 3nm chip.

It is anticipated that the Galaxy Watch 7 series will be released at the company’s second Unpacked event, which takes place in H2. They will be launched alongside the company’s foldables. Most likely, the next generation of Samsung’s foldables will be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In simple words, a 3nm chip for a smartwatch means that it will offer huge gains in energy efficiency. It will greatly improve the user experience for wearable devices.

In the past years, the company has faced issues with the battery life of the Galaxy Watch series; however, the problem was resolved with the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 6 series. The much-anticipated Galaxy Watch 7 may be the revolutionary advancement that wearers of smartwatches have been waiting for.
