Unfortunately a bit inconveniently timed for European game fans, the eleventh edition of the game started last night at 1:30 a.m. German time Game Awards. The awards ceremony, which was launched in 2014 by journalist and industry insider Geoff Keighley, is one of the most important events of the year. As every year, there were awards to be won in a total of 30 categories.
In addition to ‘Game of the Year’, this also included ‘Best Story’, ‘Best Music’ and ‘Best Independent Game’. Sony was particularly pleased. An exclusive title for the PlayStation 5 landed in first place in several categories.
The Jump ‘n’ Run Astro-Bot was not only named the best game of 2024, but also received awards in the categories ‘Best Game Direction’, ‘Best Action/Adventure Game’ and ‘Best Family Game’. The other big winners included the role-playing game Metaphor: ReFantazio, which won three prizes, and the card game Balatro, which also won three first places.
The German Melina Jürgens from Paderborn was also honored for her acting performance in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. She embodied the heroine of the game in the first part of the series. It was actually only intended as a provisional occupation. But the video editor showed such great talent for acting that she took on the role permanently.
In addition to the prizes, there were also a number of announcements throughout the evening. CD Projekt Red finally showed the first trailer for The Witcher 4. In it, the new main protagonist Ciri is examined in more detail. There was also new video material for Borderlands 4.
