The New York Times and Google agreed to a content partnership worth $100 million

Google and The New York Times (NYT) are said to lock a multi-year content deal. The deal is worth $100 million. It is signed for a time span of three years. through this deal, Google will have the opportunity to feature content published by NYT on some of its platforms. Content distribution, subscriptions, and the use of Google tools for marketing and ad-product experimentation are also part of the deal.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the two companies signed the deal earlier this year. At that time NYT declared the deal as an extended agreement. However, it didn’t reveal the financial terms of the deal. The Times will receive up to $100 million from Google over the next three years, according to persons familiar with the situation who spoke to the WSJ recently. The NYT will take part in Google News Showcase as part of this agreement. It is a product for content licensing that pays content creators to have their work featured on Google News and other platforms run by the company.

Both companies were approached for their remarks about the deal. Google didn’t respond to this news. While NYT also denied responding despite the fact that the original announcement was shared earlier this year. It is going to be a major revenue stream for NYT despite the current economic conditions. Due to economic instability, users are very cautious while spending money. It is also impacting the ad market. This deal will definitely help NYT to compensate for the revenue declines from the ad business.
