The number of users of Windows 11 is increasing significantly even before the major release

Windows 11’s market share is growing – even noticeable at the beginning of this year. The new Windows version, it seems, has already overtaken the latest Windows 10 version 21H2 in terms of user numbers. This is evident from the latest figures from advertising marketer Adduplex. Although Microsoft has just flipped the switch and is speeding up the distribution of Windows 11, there are no official user numbers for Windows 11. Microsoft has always been frugal with market distribution figures, which makes the insight Adduplex provides each month all the more interesting. There’s no sign of update fatigue or “fear” for the new Windows 11: the move to Windows 11 is pretty quick despite the alleged hardware hurdles. This time around 60,000 PCs running Windows 10 or Windows 11 were evaluated for January 2022.
Adduplex shows the latest market distribution figures

16 percent have already arrived with Windows 11

According to Adduplex, 16.1 percent of the followed users were already using Windows 11 in January. After all, that is every 6th user and currently more than there are users of Windows 10 version 21H2. For 21H2, Adduplex’s stats currently show 12.1 percent. The majority of users are using Windows 10 version 21H1, the so-called May 2021 update. This is 28.6 percent, compared to 26.3 percent who are still using the Windows 10 20H2 version. The new data comes from January’s analysis of the Advertisers Adduplex.

So you see that there are relatively many users who still use the old versions, but just as many who immediately switch to the new Windows 11. The other Windows 10 versions (versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809) have only very small shares. Since Microsoft only supports the versions for a relatively short time and provides security updates, you can see that the concept of faster updates to the latest version works there anyway. Adduplex regularly publishes the new market shares of the individual Windows versions at the end of the month. Since there are rarely official figures from Microsoft, these statistics are a valuable indication of how popular each version is with end users.
