2023 has started. According to a piece of news information, Apple has completely shut down one of its well-known weather apps. It is reportedly the Dark Sky app on iOS that has been shut done by Apple. Back in September 2022, the app was removed from the App Store. As of now, it has stopped working for the current users.

In March 2020, Apple launched the Dark Sky app. Since then the company added various features to the Weather app installed by default across its products like iPhone, iPad, and Mac. In December 2022, a document detailing how users of Dark Sky could use the Weather app was shared by the company. The support document detailed that the app now offers various features like hourly forecasts for the next 10 days, severe weather notifications, high-resolution radar maps, and “hyperlocal” forecasts, including next-hour precipitation.

Furthermore, if you want to enjoy the features presented on the Dark Sky app, you need to update your Apple device to the latest version. Let us say iOS must be updated to iOS 16, iPad to iPad 16, and Mac with macOS Ventura. Do note here that some of the features presented in the Weather app are available in selected regions. This information is based on a separate support document shared by the company.

In addition to this, the company will also close the API for the Dark Sky app for third-party weather apps. This will be effective from March 31 onwards. Reportedly, the company might launch its own WeatherKit API as a substitute.
