The QD-OLED TV sets by Samsung were unable to achieve the sales target in 2022
Samsung released its first OLED TV in 2022. It was the first time in over a decade that the tech firm come up with an amazing product. The 4K TV grabbed the attention of the masses because of the various attributes of the product. The QD-OLED TV by Samsung was presented with exceptional colors, contrast ratio, response time, deep blacks, and viewing angles. Besides all these extraordinary features and attributes, the product was unable to meet the set expectations of the company.
Omdia is a market research firm. It has shared a report regarding the poor performance of Samsung’s QD-OLED TVs. The report states that the major issue was with the production of QDOLED panels. The division [Samsung DX] of the company known for selling TV was not provided with enough panels by the Samsung Display. Given this reason, the company was unable to introduce the product on a global scale. Thus, restricting the sales of the S95B. however, the yield of the QD-OLED panel significantly improved to more than 80% as of July 2022.
Some of the sources suggest that the Samsung DX division was directed to increase the sales of TVs. For this, the company offered the S95B with discounted offers. Followed by this step, the sales of the QD-OLED TV grew by more than 70,000 units a month from October 2022 onwards.
The price drop was quite shaky for the company. Despite these efforts, the S95B was unable to match the expected sales. The tech company Previously, Samsung aimed at selling 600,000 units of the product. However, they were only to make sales of almost 350,000 as of 2022. In addition to this, the price drop also impacted the sales of the Neo QLED TV of Samsung which is based on Mini LED technology.
However, with the new year, the company aims at giving things a new push. For this reason, the company has come forward with two amazing TV sets. These products were displayed at CES 2023 event. Reportedly, the new QD-OLEDTV lineup includes the S90C and the S95C. both devices are presented with amazing features. the unique attributes of S90C and S95C consist of high color luminance, durability, low ambient light reflection, 2,000 nits of peak brightness, and high power efficiency. For 2023, the company has introduced the 77-inch version. Whereas the previous versions were restricted to 55-inch and 65-inch. With these measures, the company expects to boost sales.
Furthermore, the QD-OLED TV segment seems to enter the phase of the competition. Since competitors like TCL, Sharp, and Philips are likely to introduce their QD-OLED TVs. For this reason, the South Korean tech firm needs to be careful in devising its future strategies for QD-OLED TVs. As per the estimates by Omdia, the QD-OLED TV market is expected to witness a growth of 141% year-over-year in 2023 and reach 2 million units by 2026.
