The Witcher 4 appeared on GOG
Information about The Witcher 4 has been scarce so far. Now, however, a page that appears to be related to the game has appeared on GOG. It doesn’t reveal too much, but it does give an initial indication of the release date. However, this seems a bit questionable.
The Witcher 4 is in the works
Many fans of the Witcher series from the Polish development studio CD Projekt Red (CDPR) are eagerly awaiting its sequel. It’s been over nine years since The Witcher 3 was released. It’s been eight years since the second expansion, Blood and Wine. In a podcast in mid-July, Pawel Sasko, the deputy game director at CDPR, revealed that over 400 people are already working on “Polaris”, as The Witcher 4 is called internally. In addition, the game is the furthest along in its development of all projects at CDPR. By now it has probably reached the production phase.
However, Sasko held back with further details. CDPR is generally known for not revealing too much information about games during development. Now, however, something has become public from another place.
Screenshot with release date appeared
This is how user MrFrostPvP in Witcher subreddit shared a screenshot showing a product page for The Witcher 4 in the GOG Galaxy launcher. In addition to the motif of the amulet lying in the snow, which is known from the only trailer so far, the site also contains new, interesting information. The release date is December 31, 2025.
However, this date is certainly just a placeholder for the entire year 2025. However, such an early release of The Witcher 4 seems very unlikely based on the information shared by Sasko. Because that would mean that CDPR only takes about twelve months for the entire production. That’s probably far too little for a game of this size.
Real or a fake?
So what exactly is or was about the product page, which is no longer available, remains a mystery. CDPR has not yet commented on this. Of course it could also be a fake. However, MrFrostPvP, an active member of the community, is not known for spreading wild rumors.
In addition to The Witcher 4, CDPR is also working on other projects, such as a new edition of the first part of the series about Geralt of Rivia. However, it should appear later than the fourth part of the story. In any case, fans of the series still have to be patient. Realistically, the next Witcher game won’t be released until 2026 at the earliest.
