The world’s first self-balancing motorcycle goes into production

The first self-balancing motorcycle goes into series production: With the Omo X, the manufacturer Omoway announces a new mobility concept. Thanks to space technology, the machine remains stable on its own – even when stationary. A look at the built-in technology.

Series start for the balance motorcycle

The technology company Omoway has announced the official start of production of the Omo X electric motorcycle. At an event at Singapore Airport, the manufacturer presented the two-wheeler, which stays upright without human intervention. This marks the beginning of mass production for a new category of vehicles. The heart of the machine is the Omo Robot architecture.

The system combines sensors and AI algorithms with physical stabilization technology. Similar to satellites, a control moment gyroscope ensures the necessary balance by preserving angular momentum. Space engineers use this technology, among other things, in the International Space Station (ISS) for fuelless alignment. Omoway shows his self-balancing electric motorcycle in a video

The system compensates for fluctuations in milliseconds, regardless of whether the vehicle is driving slowly or standing at a traffic light. The motorcycle acts autonomously and relieves the driver of the physical need to constantly balance the weight of the machine. Like Omoway in one Press release writes (via Electrek), the technique goes far beyond simply maintaining balance. The system uses active safety technology that is intended to anticipate dangerous situations through millions of simulations. According to the manufacturer, the central security functions include:

  • Prevention of slipping on wet roads
  • Assistance systems for more stable cornering
  • Automatic obstacle detection and immediate posture correction

However, self-balancing concepts are not new in the motorcycle industry. Manufacturers such as Honda and Yamaha have presented similar Riding Assist prototypes at trade fairs in the past. However, this mostly remained in the status of technology carriers. Omoway is now bringing the principle onto the road and is also adapting the technology for the Mobility One logistics robot.

Market launch in Southeast Asia

Interested parties in Europe will have to be patient for now. The sales launch will initially focus on Indonesia, one of the world’s largest markets for two-wheelers. Pre-orders will be possible there from the end of April, with the official market launch following in May. Omoway says it has already built a network of dozens of local distributors. The company has not yet announced specific prices.

The target group is clearly defined: The autonomous stability should lower the inhibition threshold for beginners. People who are afraid of the weight of heavy machines in particular could benefit from MotoRobot technology. The electric motorcycle completely eliminates the need to put your feet down when stationary.
