TikTok Chief Kevin Mayer Resigns

On Wednesday, TikTok Chief Kevin Mayer resigned from his post as CEO due to the increasing tension between Beijing and Washington over the widely used platform owned by the Chinese.

A few days ago, the US government claimed that this social media app can be easily used to spy on Americans. In response to this claim, TikTok recently filed a lawsuit challenging this claim.

TikTok has become a diplomatic storm between China and America. American President Donald Trump on August 6^th, signed executive order according to which all Americans have forty-five days to stop doing business with ByteDance TikTok’s Parent Company.

The suit filed by the widely used app TikTok says that Trump’s order shows misuse of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. According to the Chinese owned video platform, it is just an application where people share playful short videos that can’t be an extraordinary threat.

Kevin Mayer who is also a former Disney executive became the TikTok Chief in May. He wrote a letter for his staff in which he stated that in recent weeks the political environment has harshly changed.  

He further wrote with a heavy heart that he wants everybody to know that he has decided to resign from the company.

The company in a statement appreciated Kevin’s efforts and said that they respect his decision. TikTok also thanked him for the time that he gave to the company and wished him well.
