TikTok Promises to Donate 250 million for Coronavirus

TikTok a video app on mobile phones guarantees a contribution of $250 million as a relief fund for COVID-19 on Thursday.

The app which has been assaulted by the US Lawmakers and officials for potential security risk says that the aid would be mainly for the medical workers, educators and the local community which is being affected deeply by the virus.

The same announcement has been made by other famous technology firms too including; Netflix, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, and Amazon.

The president of TikTok Alex Zhu says that they are very much committed to playing their role in the global crises.

He further added that they are looking closely all across the community and then they will provide aid to those who are most affected by the virus.

The company says that 150 million will be contributed for the medical supplies, staffing, and health care workers through the World Health Organization, US Centers for Disease Control and other agencies who work to supply aid in the most affected countries which include; Indonesia, South Korea, Italy, and India.

$40 million will be provided to the diverse user of TikTok like musicians, nurses, educators, artists, and families who use the TikTok platform.

10 million will be contributed to those songwriters, artists or music professionals who are facing financial trouble because of the cancelled performances and gig work.

In order to support distance learning efforts, 50 million will be added to a ‘Creative Learning Fund’.

TikTok is a widely used application for making short music videos owned by a Chinese Tech Company ByteDance. The application has seen 65 million downloads in the month of March.

The Justice Department and Homeland Security warn that this app can become another tool that can be exploited by the Chinese intelligence services.

TikTok itself denied all the ties with the Chinese government and clarified that the application doesn’t exist in China.
