Transcripts for Apple Podcasts will be produced automatically in iOS 17.4
It will soon become easier to catch up on a new podcast. With Apple’s announcement that it will transcribe podcasts automatically, more people should be able to enjoy the episodes. Producers of Apple Podcasts can choose to have Apple generate a transcript, or they can provide their own for display.
The transcription should begin to be created by Apple Podcasts as soon as the episode is submitted. People who can’t wait to play their favorite podcast immediately will have to wait for an indefinite period, though, as it has a “short delay” before becoming available. Apple advises podcasters to give it at least 24 hours after uploading an episode. The longer the episode, the longer it will probably take for the transcription to be completed. Additionally, the transcription won’t show song lyrics or update if portions of the tape are altered with dynamically introduced audio.
Podcasters who want their episodes to be accurately transcribed must adhere to Apple’s quality guidelines. Podcasts with individuals chatting over one other or music may not have as accurate a transcription, according to Apple. If a user decides to upload a file, it must be an SRT or VTT file. For further accuracy, a podcaster can also alter a transcription.
In the spring, iOS 17.4 transcribing of Apple Podcasts in English, German, Spanish, and French should be available. More than 170 nations and regions can access the functionality, including older episodes transcribed over time.
