Transfer Games From PS4 To PS5 Pro: Here Is How You Can Do It

The new PlayStation 5 Pro is here and many users are faced with the question: How can I transfer my games and data from my old PS4 or PS5 to the new console? From direct network transfer to cloud import, we show the different options.

The direct network transmission

The method recommended by Sony and at the same time the most convenient is direct data transfer between both PlayStation consoles. Not only the games themselves, but also all user profiles, console settings and saved media files are transferred.

A wired connection via LAN cable speeds up the process significantly. But of course a wireless WLAN connection can also be used for the transmission. The entire process can be carried out both during the initial setup and afterwards.

Here’s how to do it step by step:

Turn on both consoles and connect to the same network (WLAN / LAN).
On PS5 Pro: Select Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer
Follow the on-screen instructions until the PS5 Pro recognizes the old console
Select data to transfer (profiles, games, settings)
Start the transfer and wait – this can take several hours depending on the amount of data

Savegames: Cloud import with PlayStation Plus

For players who want to sell their old PS4 or PS5 before receiving the PlayStation 5 Pro or Slim, cloud storage via PlayStation Plus is an option. This method is particularly suitable for saved games, but requires an active PlayStation Plus subscription.

Cloud transfer in practice:

On the old PS4 / PS5: Open Settings > Saved Data > Cloud Storage
Select “Upload to Cloud” and save savegames
On the PS5 Pro: Same menu path, but select “Download from Cloud”.
Select and download the saved games you want

Transfer via external SSD

Another practical option is to use an external SSD. This method is particularly suitable for large game libraries and works even without simultaneous access to both consoles. The SSD can later be easily connected to the PS5 Pro or even inserted into it – no reformatting is necessary.

The SSD transmission path:

Connect compatible SSD to old PS4/PS5
Transfer the desired games to SSD in Settings > Storage
Once complete, safely remove SSD
Connect SSD to PS5 Pro – games can be played immediately or can be transferred to internal SSD

Full system backup via USB

The last option is the complete system backup via USB. This method resets the PlayStation 5 Pro to factory settings, but transfers all the data at once. Important: PS4 and PS5 saves cannot be backed up individually to USB, only as part of a full backup.

Perform USB backup:

Connect a USB stick / hard drive / SSD with enough memory to the old PS5
Select Settings > System > Backup and Restore
Select “Backup PS4 / PS5” and complete the process
On PS5 Pro: Same menu path, select “Restore PS5”.
After recovery, restart the console

Regardless of the method chosen, no changes to the network settings should be made during the transfer to avoid data loss. After completion, we always recommend restarting the console in order to apply all settings correctly.
