Twitter announces to ban political ads on its platform

The social media giant—Twitter announced that the company would stop accepting the political ads globally on its social platform.

The company said that the step is to counter the growing concerns over disinformation from the politics on the social networking platform.

“We’ve made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally. We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought. Why? A few reasons…,” Jack Dorsey, the Chief executive of the company said in a tweet.

He further said that a political message by the politicians earns reach when people decide to follow an account or retweet on twitter. “Paying for reach removes that decision, forcing highly optimized and targeted political messages on people. We believe this decision should not be compromised by money,” he added.

Jack Dorsey further announced that the new ads policy, details of which will be unveiled next month and enforced from November 22, would ban the political ads as well as from the candidates.
