Uninstall Adobe Flash Player: The Software Officially Ends On December 31, 2020

Adobe has announced that the much-used Flash Player software will reach end-of-life (EOL) on December 31, 2020. By then, all users should have uninstalled the Flash Player, Adobe wishes. This was decided 3 years ago when Research Snipers reported this.

The date for the official end of Flash has been fixed for a long time and the first “attempts to redeem” by removing Flash, for example in Google’s web browser Chrome, have already started in 2019. Adobe has now provided a new support page at the end of Flash and informed what is planned next. Adobe plans to request users to uninstall the Flash Player by the end of the year because the software will reach end-of-life (EOL) on December 31, 2020.

According to Adobe, the company plans not only to stop providing updates when Flash reaches the EOL date but also to remove all download links for Flash Player from its website. This is only logical and commendable. This is primarily to prevent users from reinstalling the software or continuing to use an old version on their PC that is no longer provided with security updates.

Block Flash-based content

Adobe also writes that the execution of Flash-based content in Adobe Flash Player is blocked after the EOL date. This could indicate that a “time bomb” has already been integrated into the latest versions – a snippet of code that prevents the software from starting after December 31, 2020. This has not been confirmed, however, it is suspected, among other things, by ZDNet.

Adobe has to act somehow to erase Flash has long been clear. One reason is that Flash Player has always been targeted by hackers and malware developers. This should only get worse with the EOL appointment since Adobe will definitely no longer deliver security updates. Appropriately, Microsoft had already confirmed that the Adobe Flash Player will be removed from all products by the end of this year.
