Water is Easily Accessible on Mars

As per a new discovery, water is not just available on Mars, it is easily accessible on Mars. New discoveries have become much easier on Mars after Red Planet was discovered. Now NASA along with many private firms like SpaceX are ready to travel to Mars and find more about this planet and our solar system in general.

NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has aided in this recent discovery. NASA found out that easily accessible H2O is highly present in Mars in form of buried ice. Scientists have discovered eight locations where cliff erosion displays thick deposits of ice. This was discovered using MRO and it was found that ice was buried almost 3 to 6 feet below rock on the Red Planet.

Co-author Shane Byrne of the University of Arizona said,“The discovery reported today gives us surprising windows where we can see right into these thick underground sheets of ice. Astronauts could essentially just go there with a bucket and a shovel and get all the water they need.”

High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on the MRO is used to evaluate colors, by which many scarp sites have been discovered. Many tests were conducted for it. The purity of ice was confirmed via CRISM (Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars). MRO discovered many ice sheets at different sites on Mars through its Shallow Radar camera. What is yet unknown is that how deep they would have to dig to finally find ice and water on Mars.

So scientists finally know that water is easily available on Mars and on many sites. This is quite a big and promising discovery. This research will help in future missions on Mars. Elon Musk the SpaceX founder has already completed plans to take first human settle to Mar by 2024.
