WhatsApp Introduces AI-Powered Message Summaries with Full Privacy

Exactly for these situations, WhatsApp is now introducing the new “Message Summaries” function. The AI-based solution summarizes unread news in a compact chat and gives users a quick overview of missed content before reading the details in the actual messages.
The function is initially introduced in English for users in the USA. Meta, the mother -corporal WhatsApp, plans to make the function available in other languages and countries this year. This AI help should be a welcome support, especially for users with many group chats or frequent offline times. The special feature of the new function lies in the technology “private processing”, which Meta had already presented at the Llamacon conference in April.
This makes it possible to integrate AI functions into WhatsApp without affecting the privacy of users. According to a WhatsApp blog post, Meta Ai can generate answers without meta or WhatsApp ever being able to view the news or private summaries.
For the implementation, META uses so-called Trusted Execution Environments (tea), a safe, encrypted calculation environment in which the AI model processes the data in a manipulation-proof container. Neither META engineers nor external systems can access the content during processing, and the end-to-end encryption remains continuously.
This technology represents significant progress in private AI processing, since it enables it to use the advantages of artificial intelligence without compromise on data security, says Meta. The use is very simple: As soon as the function is available in the app, a banner with the inscription “Summarize Privately” (privately summarize) appears via unread messages. With a tip on this, Meta Ai creates a summary of the unread news. The AI analyzes the unread news and provides a clear summary with the most important points.
This summary only appears on your own device and is not shared with other chat participants. Message Summaries is optional and by default. Meta states that users can also select “Advanced Chat Privacy” which chats can be released for AI functions.
