WhatsApp now allows you to exchange images and videos in their original quality

For iOS users, WhatsApp is now rolling out a new update that lets users exchange photographs and videos on the messaging app at their original, uncompressed quality. This is a positive development because the platform has a reputation for poor-quality media transfers, even after the August update that improved its compression algorithm slightly to support higher definition.

These media files are not compressed in the slightest, as was previously mentioned. The update handles media as regular data files instead. These files can be clicked to be viewed by the receiver, but they are not converted into chat window previews when you send them. If the chat window preview thumbnails disappear, you can still send media in the old-fashioned manner.

Having stated that, this modification is not automatic. In order to transfer a document, you must intentionally choose to send an uncompressed picture or video and click the “+” icon. The remaining parts are obvious. According to WhatsApp, this deployment is tier-based, so it can take a few weeks for it to show up in your update box. According to MacRumors, the company is working on Android, although no release date has been announced.

For Meta’s WhatsApp, the year has been significant as the messaging service has experimented with numerous features. Back in August, there was a specific Mac app that allowed for up to eight people to video talk, and earlier in the year, there was a Windows client. Even self-destructing voice notes and stickers created by AI are being tested.
