WhatsApp Pay is launching in 2019

It is being reported that WhatsApp is launching WhatsApp Pay in 2019, starting in India. According to Will Cathcart the Facebook subsidiary’s global head, WhatsApp had been testing its payment services in India since 2018.

Earlier, Facebook revealed its global cryptocurrency, Libra. It will be managed by Libra Association via a wallet service named Calibra. The aim of Libra is to purchase products, send money globally, make donations, etc. But this cryptocurrency cannot launch in India as cryptocurrencies are banned there.

With the launch of WhatsApp Pay in India, sending and receiving money would be as simple as sending a message.

Cathcart reportedly said, “We believe that if we get this right, it will accelerate financial inclusion and bring value for people in India’s fast-growing digital economy. “We can’t wait to provide the service [to] more of our users all across India later this year.”
