Will Motorola be the first to launch a foldable and rollable smartphone before Samsung?

Motorola already sells cellphones that fold, including the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra. The business also unveiled the Rizr, a rollable phone, at MWC 2023. Motorola is currently considering fusing the two form factors to create a gadget with rollable screens and a foldable design. Let’s examine this.

A new Motorola patent that describes a phone with a folding form akin to a book, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, was discovered by Website Rating. The gadget features two rollable displays on the interior that can roll upward and have a gap between them, in addition to a conventional display on the exterior that lets you use it like a typical smartphone.

You cannot utilize the two displays simultaneously to watch a film or browse the internet because of the gap between them, which detracts from the viewing experience. But just as with the Microsoft Surface Duo, you can use one to utilize an app and the other to watch a video. Most people, I’m sure, would think the second situation was pointless.

Thus, the phone’s functionality is not particularly useful at the expense of reliability, and its intricate design makes it prone to malfunctions. Overall, the device is incredibly unfeasible. Fortunately, all that exists here is a patent. It is unlikely that Motorola will produce this device.  With this patent, the corporation may be just attempting to protect its ideas, no matter how stupid they are. So, it doesn’t appear that Motorola has any actual ambitions to deliver a rollable and foldable smartphone before Samsung.
