Windows 11 build improves Explorer

After a dry spell of almost two weeks, the Insider program is back with a new Windows 11 update. However, there are no new functions – but there are interesting improvements and a number of bug fixes.

A breath of fresh air for Windows testers

Microsoft has finally released a new Insider version in the Canary channel. Build number 27758.1000 brings numerous improvements and bug fixes. The focus of the update is to fix issues in File Explorer and the taskbar.

This fixed a bug that caused the search field in Explorer to disappear at the end of the window. Crashes when right-clicking on app icons in the taskbar are now a thing of the past. However, Microsoft already compiled the new version on November 22nd, and in the meantime the team may have also worked on new functions.

Like Microsoft in Windows Insider Blog reports work was also done on the task manager and voice output. In addition to the Explorer and taskbar fixes, the update also addresses other areas of the operating system:

  • The desktop background now displays correctly on multiple monitors
  • Task Manager adapts the Mica background better to the window size
  • The voice output now starts reliably with natural voices
  • USB audio devices wake up correctly again from sleep mode
  • Eliminated unexpected mute noises on certain headsets

Despite the many improvements, there are also new known issues. Microsoft warns of a possible blue screen with the error “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA” for some insiders. In addition, users of Copilot+ PCs may lose their Windows Hello PIN and biometric data when switching to the Canary channel. The Canary channel, where this build was published, is the most experimental of the Windows Insider channels.

The earliest builds end up here, which can often still be unstable – you shouldn’t be annoyed about problems such as possible data loss. Testers in this channel help Microsoft identify and fix problems early before the changes reach more stable channels.
