Windows 11: New Feature Update Brings Spotlight to the Desktop

Microsoft has entered the testing phase of the sixth feature update for Windows 11. With the new Windows 11 Build 22000.706, a new pre-release is now available in the Release Preview Channel – including a major innovation: Spotlight on the desktop. Microsoft announced last night the release of Windows 11 Build 22000.706 (KB5014019), which is now available for download and testing by all Windows Insider testers through the Release Preview Channel. As is so often the case with the latest pre-release, the focus is on fixing a large number of bugs, but it also includes at least two new features.

Windows Spotlight changeable wallpapers are now on the desktop

The most notable and therefore most important innovation for all users is the introduction of Windows Spotlight for the desktop. Previously only part of the lock screen, the feature allows all types of images from a collection curated by Microsoft to be displayed as your desktop background if desired. The images are shown alternately every day, so there is always something new to offer.

Just like on the lock screen, Windows 11 shows different pictures on the desktop when the spotlight function is activated, where additional information about the respective motifs or images can be called up from the Internet with a simple click. The desktop spotlight feature can be enabled through the background personalization settings.

In addition, Microsoft has made a minor improvement to the child account verification process in the Family Safety functionality when the account requests more screen time. The other changes in the new build are limited to bug fixes, which are included in Microsoft’s blog post more information can be viewed.
